What does healthy mean to you?
Living a healthy life has been a daily focus of mine for the last 30+ years. My body started clearly speaking to me about its likes and dislikes in what I was feeding it and how I was nurturing it so it was an easy transition for me to keep removing unhealthy from my life.
What has been more difficult for me is finding the perfect balance of healthy. You name it, I have been vegetarian, vegan, sometimes-arian – again just listening to my body as I find my needs change with the seasons.
What I always try to be consistent with is organic. That is always the common denominator. Did you know that there is an app that you can add to your phone called Dirty Dozen that helps to remind you the top fruits and veggies that you should always buy organic. If you find that switching to fully organic eating is too expensive, at least try to start with this list.
The following items on the 2017 “Dirty Dozen” list of produce with the most pesticide residue:
- Sweet bell peppers
Also: Green beans and kale are moving up on the most sprayed list as well.
The “Clean 15” items are those with the least likelihood to contain pesticide residue:
- Sweet corn (be sure your corn is NON-GMO)
- Frozen sweet peas
