Today’s visit to the ranch included lots of walking and lot of quiet time. While Pete and the work crew were busy rehabbing the bunkhouses, I was really drawn to the lake. I wanted to take plenty of time to get down to the waterline and enjoy the water life. At this time of the year, I’m thrilled that there is still water in the lake and can’t wait for a good rainfall to watch it refill.
It was a really hot day in Lockwood Valley and the wildlife seemed to be enjoying a nice rest. I ran across this whip snake sunning himself on a rock that I thought would make a nice sitting spot. Apparently he thought the same thing! When I met him in person, he seemed really small but looking at this picture, he’s not as small as I remember!
I had to do some research when I got back home and find that our resident ducks are coots. You’ll have to look really closely to find them, but I can tell you they were really enjoying the refreshing water on this parched day as they were diving for some bottom of the lake treats.
