The weekend farmgirl ranch is rich with history that I’ll be sharing in the months ahead but its most recent use was as a thoroughbred training farm. Sitting high in the Lockwood Valley, California mountains at nearly 5,000 feet and located between the Chumash and Sespe Wilderness areas at the foot of the magnificent Mt. Pinos summit (and bordered by the Los Padres National Forest), it’s a magnificent setting for weekend visits. (Yep, we will be opening the ranch up for weekend bookings!)
Yesterday, I set out to walk this 3/4 mile polytrack (a blend of silica sand and rubber) to assess the repairs and weed removal. With little rain in California everything is very parched and the track has been left in disrepair for many years. Our goal is to bring it back to its original glory. Thankfully Pete is an experienced welder and I can’t imagine how much time it will take to weld and paint but it is added to the to-do list!
